Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer

Reporting to the Chief Fire Officer, the Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer will be required to lead a team in any of the main disciplines of the Fire Service: Operations, Prevention, Major Emergency Management, Building Control and Major Emergency Management. The Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer has responsibility for managing the service delivery and development of functions in the areas as delegated by the Chief Fire Officer.

Main Duties of the Job

 

Responsibility for management of Health & Safety in Wexford County Fire Service in relation to training, policy development and implementation and accreditation of the Occupational Health & Safety Management System to OHSAS 45001 standard.

The management and supervision of staff and to ensure the development of such staff. Building effective teams, developing motivation and commitment and maintaining sound employee relations.

Mobilisation and communications.

Provision and maintenance of equipment.

County Wexford is in the province of Leinster and has a population of 163,527 persons (2022 Census). This represents an increase of 13,805 or 9.2% since the previous 2016 census.

An opportunity now exists in Wexford County Council for the position of Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer.

 

Benefits

 

Salary Scale effective from 1st February 2026:

€79,881 – €82,330 – €83,503 – €85,968 – €88,454 – €90,933 – €93,430 – €96,567 (LSI1) – €99,695 (LSI2)

Hours of attendance will be fixed from time to time but will amount to not less than 35 hours gross per week.

The annual leave allowance for the position of Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer is 30 days.
